It has taken me a few days to give an update on the status of my Wii but not because it is taking a while to get the new console. On the contrary, 18 hours after I made the call to have Nintendo send me a new console my doorbell rang and I had a new console. You want to talk about service, that is some crazy-fast service. Plus it didn't cost me a dime, not even for the shipping or anything. So I have been playing the new Wii and everything seems fine; however, I have yet to play MK. I have played a new game called Boom Blox which is pretty fun, but I will have to play MK soon so I can make sure all is well and send my old Wii back in. Anyways that is my Wii story, maybe I will tell you more about Mario Kart and Boom Blox later in another post, maybe. But don't hold your breath.

So it has been just under three weeks that we have had the Wii and we already have a replacement on the way to the house.
Initially we did have some setup problems, but most of them involved connecting to the Internet, as it would keep freezing when trying to update or connect to the router. Then we noticed that when the Wii went into standy it would not come out of it. I would have to either pull the plug or just hold down power for 4-5 seconds and the machine would power down, then I could power it back up and play. So eventually I just turned the standby function off and the machine seemed to work fine when powering it on. But then we started having troubles with Mario Kart. If we play a cup consisting of four races, when we were returned to the main screen after completing the cup the system would freeze. It now does this every time we complete a cup. Combine that with the standy issue and it was just too much to ignore. I called up Nintendo and they didn't have any problems sending me a new system. Since we don't have much to lose (game information wise) they are actually going to front me a new system and then I am just going to put my system in the same box as the one they use to send me the replacement and send it back to them. This is a pretty nice service since I won't be out a Wii and the new one will come in 2 or 3 days. Colleen isn't too happy about losing all of her gold medals (she has gold in every 100cc and almost all of the 150cc circuits), but it will give her something to shoot for again when the new one comes in. So all-in all I am happy with Nintendo's support but a little disappoint with how quickly the Wii failed (some of the failure was out of the box).

Yep, that would be my definition. Yeah right out of the box it is hard to complain with bowling, tennis, boxing and golf (left out baseball, just not a huge fan). But Mario Kart is a blast; however, it WILL cause major fits of rage at times when you are winning the entire race by half a lap and on the final stretch you get that cheap blue shell and then a series of red shells to take you from a comfortable first to 8th place or so. And after it happens a few times you just have to turn the game off before something is broken. That being said most of the time the game is great and when playing real people the game is great all the time. However I really do miss the voice that Live gives you. And if you have ever tried to link up with some friends online you really do appreciate everything that Live is. Anyways when you get MK (that is what we in the 'in' crowd call Mario Kart) let me know your numbers. My MK number is 5370 0887 2768. No fear in putting it out there since you can't do anything with just one number, you each need to have the others number to even see each other.

I agree. If by "group play" you mean having people over and playing a video game like you would a board game or something, Wii does it best. And right out of the box too with Wii Sports. I need to look into what all games are available at this point. Mario Kart is high on the list though, so I'll be sending you my friend ID or code or whatever soon.
