As you can probably guess from the title this post is more about us getting a Nintendo Wii then it is the actual weekend. We have been talking about getting one for a while, we like the Wii sports, especially the bowling. Our only trouble so far has been finding a store that has them in stock. We didn’t want one so bad that we would overpay for one on craigslist or eBay and we weren’t going to wait in line either. So on Sunday as colleen was going through the ads in the newspaper she saw that almost all the stores on Sawmil had Wiis advertised. We were headed down to Home Depot soon so we headed out a little earlier and decided to see if we could actually walk into a store and get a Wii. We stopped at Circuit City first and they didn’t open until 10 and I wasn’t going to wait around 20 minutes in a car for the console. We headed across the street to Toys R Us and there was a line in front of their doors so we just turned around and headed to Meijer. We had some recycling stuff to drop off there anyways. Colleen went into the store to see if they had any Wiis while I dropped off the garbage. Soon enough I got a call from Colleen letting me know that she had a Wii in her hand along with Mario Kart. We decided to get a few extras for the console while we were there. We purchased Wii Play which has a few small games on it and comes with an extra remote, a second nunchuck, and a second wheel for Mario Kart. After picking up some bricks for ourpatio we headed home and got the Wii hooked up to the TV. I had work to do on the patio so Colleen started having a pretty good time playing some Mario Kart.
Mario Kart is very fun and using the wheel makes it even more fun. I was very skeptical at first and I didn’t figure that the wheel would be easy to use or very responsive. But it is actually totally opposite, I think it adds a lot to the game and makes it really fun to watch someone playing the game as well.
We also had the neighbors over for some good old fashion boxing which is another good time. I am sure we will get our use out of the system and I don’t think it is too much even though I already have a 360. I see the Wii in a different area than the 360. Sure they have some games that overlap but the Wii really owns the group play area. What I mean by that is the Wii is really fun to play with others, whether it is one other person or three others there seems to be a game for everyone and the group play really does make it that much more fun.
